Halba (tribe)

The Halba are a tribal group primarily found in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, India, as well as in neighboring states like Maharashtra and Odisha. They are a significant Scheduled Tribe in the region. Their language, Halbi, is an Indo-Aryan language that serves as a lingua franca in many parts of Bastar.

Culture and Society:

Halba society is traditionally agrarian, with agriculture forming the mainstay of their economy. They are known for their rich cultural traditions, including distinct forms of music, dance, and art. Social structure often revolves around clan and lineage. Traditional Halba villages typically exhibit a close-knit community structure.

Language:

Halbi is an Indo-Aryan language influenced by both Dravidian and other regional languages. It's widely spoken in the Bastar region, facilitating communication between different tribal and non-tribal communities.
