Alert Bay

Alert Bay is a village located on Cormorant Island, in the Regional District of Mount Waddington, British Columbia, Canada. It is situated off the northeastern coast of Vancouver Island.

Alert Bay is known for its rich Indigenous history and culture, specifically that of the 'Namgis First Nation, a Kwakwaka'wakw people. The U'mista Cultural Centre, located in Alert Bay, houses a significant collection of potlatch artifacts seized by the Canadian government between 1921 and 1922, showcasing the history and ongoing cultural revitalization efforts of the Kwakwaka'wakw people.

The economy of Alert Bay historically relied on fishing and forestry. Tourism is also a significant component of the local economy, drawing visitors interested in Indigenous culture, whale watching, and the island's natural beauty.

The village is accessible by ferry from Port McNeill on Vancouver Island, and there is also a small airport providing air service.
