Gulen (fjord)

Gulen is a fjord located in the municipality of Gulen in Vestland county, Norway. It is a significant fjord, penetrating approximately 40 kilometers inland from the Solund archipelago and the North Sea.

The fjord is characterized by its steep sides and considerable depth, typical of Norwegian fjords carved by glacial activity during past ice ages. Several smaller fjords and inlets branch off from the main Gulen fjord, including the Eidsfjorden and the Risnefjorden.

The economy of the areas surrounding Gulen fjord has historically relied heavily on fishing, agriculture, and shipbuilding. While these activities remain important, modern industries such as aquaculture (fish farming), tourism, and services have also become significant.

Transportation along the fjord is facilitated by road networks and ferry services connecting the various settlements and villages scattered along its shores. The dramatic scenery and natural beauty of the Gulen fjord make it a popular destination for tourists interested in outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and boating.
