William Gunn (cricketer)
William Gunn (1858-1921) was an English cricketer who played for Nottinghamshire and England. A right-handed batsman and occasional right-arm medium pace bowler, he was a dominant force in English cricket during the late 19th century.
Gunn was known for his powerful hitting and solid defensive technique. He scored over 30,000 first-class runs with 74 centuries, including a highest score of 294 against Surrey in 1903. He also took over 500 first-class wickets.
He represented England in 6 Test matches, scoring 448 runs with an average of 40.72.
Outside of playing, Gunn was involved in the family sports equipment manufacturing business, Gunn & Moore, which is still active today.
