NGC 751
NGC 751 is an elliptical galaxy located approximately 220 million light-years away in the constellation Triangulum. It is a member of the galaxy group Arp 166, also known as the NGC 750 Group. NGC 751 forms a close interacting pair with the lenticular galaxy NGC 750, and the two galaxies are connected by a bridge of material, likely gas and dust, as a result of gravitational interaction.
The interaction between NGC 750 and NGC 751 has distorted their morphologies, particularly noticeable in NGC 750. The NGC 750 Group, including these two galaxies, is an example of how galactic interactions can affect the evolution of galaxies.
NGC 751 was discovered on September 12, 1784, by the German-British astronomer William Herschel. Its apparent magnitude is approximately 13.0. Detailed studies of the system continue to provide insights into the processes of galaxy mergers and tidal interactions.
