Avner Ash
Avner Ash is an Israeli-American mathematician specializing in number theory, particularly the Langlands program. He is a professor of mathematics at Boston College.
Ash's research focuses on the cohomology of arithmetic groups, Galois representations, and the connections between automorphic forms and algebraic geometry. He has made significant contributions to the understanding of the relationship between modular forms and Galois representations, particularly in higher dimensions. His work has involved the use of computational methods to explore these connections, and he is known for his involvement in projects that use computer algebra systems to study number-theoretic objects.
Ash received his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1975 under the supervision of Robert Langlands. He has held positions at Columbia University and Boston College.
Key publications include works exploring the connection between modular symbols and the cohomology of arithmetic groups, as well as research on the computation of Galois representations associated to automorphic forms.
