Soccavo

Soccavo is a western peripheral quarter (quartiere) of the city of Naples, in the Campania region of Italy. It is part of the IX municipality of Naples, which also includes Pianura.

Historically an agricultural area, Soccavo has experienced significant urban development in the latter half of the 20th century, primarily residential in nature. This growth has altered its traditional landscape.

The origins of the name "Soccavo" are debated, but one prominent theory suggests it derives from "sub cavo," meaning "under the hollow," referring to its geographical location relative to the volcanic crater of Agnano.

Soccavo is connected to the city center and other areas of Naples by public transportation, including buses and the Cumana railway line. It is also near the Tangenziale di Napoli, a major highway circling the city.

While not a primary tourist destination, Soccavo provides insight into the daily life of Neapolitan residents and the urban development patterns around the city.
