Mohamed Ali (Egyptian contractor)
Mohamed Ali (born 1974) is an Egyptian actor, businessman, and contractor. He gained prominence in 2019 after releasing a series of videos criticizing the Egyptian government, particularly President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, accusing them of corruption and misuse of public funds in construction projects. These accusations sparked public debate and protests in Egypt, though they were largely suppressed by the government.
Prior to his activism, Ali owned Amlaak for Contracting and Real Estate Investment, a construction company that had undertaken numerous projects for the Egyptian military and government institutions. He claims that the government owes his company substantial sums of money, which prompted his public criticism.
Since going public with his accusations, Ali has lived in self-imposed exile, continuing to voice his opposition to the Egyptian government through social media and other platforms. His allegations have been widely reported by international media outlets and scrutinized by human rights organizations. His actions have made him a controversial figure within Egypt, with supporters viewing him as a whistleblower and critics accusing him of defamation and pursuing personal gain.
