Mike Leigh

Mike Leigh (born 20 February 1943) is an English film and theatre director, screenwriter, and playwright, known for his improvisational method of filmmaking and his socially realistic dramas.

Leigh studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), Camberwell School of Art, and the London Film School. He began his career in theatre before transitioning to television and then cinema.

Leigh's films often explore the lives of ordinary working-class people in contemporary Britain, portraying their everyday struggles, relationships, and aspirations. He is celebrated for his ability to capture the complexities of human behavior with sensitivity and humor.

He has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career, including the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival for Secrets & Lies, and multiple Academy Award nominations for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.
