The 2004 Italian Open was a tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts at the Foro Italico in Rome, Italy. It was the 61st edition of the tournament and was part of the ATP Masters Series of the 2004 ATP Tour and the Tier I Series of the 2004 WTA Tour. The men's tournament took place from May 3–9, 2004, while the women's tournament was held from May 10–16, 2004.

The men's singles title was won by Carlos Moyá, who defeated David Nalbandian in the final. The women's singles title was won by Amélie Mauresmo, who defeated Jennifer Capriati in the final.

The men's doubles title was won by Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Mirnyi. The women's doubles title was won by Nadia Petrova and Meghann Shaughnessy.
