Vetluga

Vetluga is the name of both a town and a river in Russia.

Town: Vetluga is a town and the administrative center of Vetluzhsky District in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia. It is located on the Vetluga River, a tributary of the Volga. Founded in the 17th century, it obtained town status in 1778. The town's economy is primarily based on forestry and woodworking industries.

River: The Vetluga River is a left tributary of the Volga River, flowing through the Kirov Oblast, Kostroma Oblast, Mari El Republic, and Nizhny Novgorod Oblast of Russia. It is 889 kilometers (552 miles) long, and its drainage basin covers 39,400 square kilometers (15,200 sq mi). The river is navigable in its lower reaches and is used for timber rafting. The Vetluga freezes up in November–December and stays frozen until April–May. Significant tributaries include the Neya, Bolshaya Kaksha, Usta, and Vokhma rivers.
