Grant Turner (radio host)
Grant Turner (1911 – 1991) was a prominent American radio host, best known for his long association with the Grand Ole Opry. He served as an announcer and host for the Opry broadcasts on WSM radio in Nashville, Tennessee, for over 50 years, from 1944 until his death. His deep, resonant voice and smooth delivery made him a beloved figure in country music radio. Turner was known for his distinctive introductions of Opry performers and his folksy, down-to-earth style. He was often referred to as "The Ol' Plantation Owner" or simply "The Ol' Commander" due to his commanding presence and Southern drawl. Turner was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1981, solidifying his legacy as a broadcasting icon. He also hosted other radio programs and made appearances on television, further establishing his presence in the entertainment industry.
