Montmorency (provincial electoral district)

Montmorency is a former provincial electoral district in the Capitale-Nationale region of Quebec, Canada. It existed intermittently between 1867 and 2012. Throughout its history, the riding was centered on the Montmorency Falls and included areas northeast of Quebec City along the north shore of the Saint Lawrence River.

Historically, the riding's boundaries shifted with redistricting efforts, incorporating different municipalities and communities over time. The political leanings of the district varied, electing members from different parties, including the Conservative Party, Liberal Party, Union Nationale, and Parti Québécois.

Notable features within the district included not only the Montmorency Falls, a significant tourist attraction, but also agricultural lands and residential areas. The economy of the riding was often tied to tourism, agriculture, and local industries.

Following the 2011 electoral map revisions, the riding of Montmorency was abolished and its territory was largely incorporated into the newly created electoral district of Côte-du-Sud, as well as parts going to other neighbouring districts. The last Member of the National Assembly representing Montmorency was Raymond Bernier of the Liberal Party of Quebec.

The district's history reflects the broader political shifts in Quebec and the evolution of its electoral landscape.
