Sofala (Drysdale)

Sofala (Drysdale) is a historical locality within the Shire of Derby-West Kimberley in Western Australia. Located on the Drysdale River near the Kalumburu Road, it's primarily known for its association with the Drysdale River Mission, a former Roman Catholic mission established in 1908.

The Drysdale River Mission, later renamed Kalumburu Mission, played a significant role in the lives of local Aboriginal communities. The Sofala site served as a location for the mission before it was moved further north to its current location at Kalumburu.

The area surrounding Sofala is characterized by rugged Kimberley landscape and a tropical climate. While little remains of the original settlement, its historical importance as an early site of contact and religious influence makes it a point of interest within the region's broader history.
