Macelo
Macelo refers to an ancient Roman market or hall, typically used for the sale of provisions, especially meat and fish. It was a covered market, somewhat similar to a modern-day supermarket or food hall, but on a grander, more public scale. Macella were important centers of commerce and social interaction in Roman cities. The term is derived from the Latin word macellum, meaning "market" or "provision market." Macella were often architecturally significant, featuring colonnades, shops, and sometimes even a central courtyard or fountain. The remains of several macella can still be seen in various Roman archaeological sites.
