Circe is a large main-belt asteroid. It was discovered on April 6, 1855, by Jean Chacornac at the Paris Observatory. It is named after the mythological sorceress Circe from Homer's Odyssey.

Circe is a C-type asteroid, meaning it is dark in color and has a carbonaceous composition. Its surface is likely composed of primitive carbon compounds, silicates, and hydrated minerals.

Estimates of Circe's diameter vary, but generally fall between 110 and 120 kilometers. Its rotation period is relatively long, at approximately 12.1 hours.
