11th Army Corps (France)

The 11th Army Corps was a unit of the French Army that existed during various periods, notably during the Franco-Prussian War and World War I.

Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871):

During the Franco-Prussian War, the 11th Army Corps was formed as part of the Army of Châlons, commanded by Marshal MacMahon. It participated in the disastrous Battle of Sedan, where it suffered heavy losses and was ultimately captured along with the rest of the army. Following Sedan, the corps was essentially destroyed.

World War I (1914-1918):

The 11th Army Corps was reformed for World War I. It participated in several key battles on the Western Front. Throughout the war, its composition and area of operations varied as the strategic situation evolved. Like other French Army Corps, it consisted of multiple divisions. The specific divisions assigned to the 11th Army Corps would change over time depending on operational requirements. It saw action in various sectors, contributing to the overall French war effort. Further specific details of its battles and commanders would require consulting detailed military histories of World War I.

Following the conclusion of World War I, the 11th Army Corps, like many other large military formations, was eventually disbanded as part of the post-war demobilization and reorganization of the French Army.
