Taphiassa

Taphiassa (also sometimes rendered as Taphiassus) was an ancient city in Phrygia, a region in west-central Anatolia (modern-day Turkey). Its exact location remains uncertain, but it is generally placed within the northwestern part of Phrygia.

Historical references to Taphiassa are scarce, primarily appearing in connection with its bishopric. The city served as a suffragan see under the Metropolitanate of Synnada. Several bishops of Taphiassa are known through ecclesiastical records, including participation in various church councils, such as the Council of Chalcedon in 451 AD.

The bishopric of Taphiassa continued to exist for several centuries, even after the area came under Seljuk Turkish control. However, it eventually faded from the records.

Today, Taphiassa is a titular see of the Roman Catholic Church, meaning it is a diocese that no longer exists in its original location but is maintained in name as an honorary title.
