Andrew Mitchell (footballer, born 1879)

Andrew Mitchell (born in Renton, Scotland, 1879; date of death unknown) was a Scottish footballer who played primarily as a left back.

Mitchell began his career in Scotland before moving south to England. He is best known for his time playing for Woolwich Arsenal (later Arsenal F.C.) in the Football League between 1904 and 1908. He made his debut for Arsenal on 3 September 1904 against Preston North End, and quickly became a regular in the side. He was known for his tough tackling and defensive solidity.

While playing for Arsenal, Mitchell made 109 appearances in the First Division and FA Cup. He left Arsenal in 1908. His subsequent footballing career is less well-documented, but it is believed he returned to Scotland to play for a local club.
