Safarlu

Safarlu is a village located in the Zangilan District of Azerbaijan. It is situated near the border with Armenia, in the southwestern part of the country. The area was previously under the control of Armenian forces during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War and its surrounding conflict. It was recaptured by Azerbaijan in 2020 during the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War.

Safarlu, like many settlements in the Zangilan District, suffered significant damage and depopulation during the period of Armenian occupation. Following its recapture, efforts are underway to rebuild the infrastructure and facilitate the return of internally displaced persons to the region. Information regarding the pre-conflict population size and economic activities of Safarlu is limited, but historically, the area was primarily agrarian. The ongoing reconstruction and resettlement processes will determine the future demographic and economic landscape of the village.

The geopolitical context of Safarlu is crucial to understanding its recent history. Its location within the disputed territories of Nagorno-Karabakh and its surrounding regions has made it a site of conflict and displacement. The ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia will likely play a significant role in shaping the long-term future of Safarlu and other resettled communities in the region.
