Tommy Sheppard (basketball)
Tommy Sheppard is an American basketball executive. He is currently the General Manager and President of Basketball Operations for the Washington Wizards of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Sheppard joined the Wizards organization (then known as the Washington Bullets) in 2003 as a media relations manager. He steadily rose through the ranks, holding positions such as Director of Communications, Vice President of Communications, Senior Vice President of Media and Player Relations, and eventually, Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations.
Prior to joining the Wizards, Sheppard worked in public relations for the Denver Nuggets and oversaw media relations for the NCAA men's basketball tournament in Denver.
In 2019, he was named interim general manager of the Wizards after the departure of Ernie Grunfeld. He was subsequently given the full-time general manager position and later added the title of President of Basketball Operations. Sheppard's tenure as general manager has been marked by player acquisitions and development initiatives aimed at building a competitive team around players like Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porziņģis (acquired via trade). His responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of the Wizards' basketball operations, including player personnel, scouting, and coaching staff.
