National Highway 10 (India)
National Highway 10 (NH 10) was a National Highway in India that connected Delhi to the Pakistan border at Fazilka in Punjab. It covered a distance of approximately 403 kilometers (250 miles).
Route:
The highway's route primarily passed through the states of Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab. Key towns and cities connected by NH 10 included Delhi, Rohtak, Hisar, Sirsa, and Fazilka.
Status and Renumbering:
In 2010, a new numbering system was adopted for National Highways in India. As a result, National Highway 10 was largely re-designated as National Highway 9 (NH 9). The stretch from Delhi to Fazilka now forms a significant part of the present-day NH 9. Therefore, "National Highway 10" refers to a historical designation, not a current one. The current NH 9 follows a significantly longer route than the former NH 10.
Importance (Historical):
Prior to its renumbering, NH 10 was an important road link connecting the national capital, Delhi, with agricultural regions of Haryana and Punjab, and facilitating trade and transportation to the border areas.
