George Washington Hotel (New York City)

The George Washington Hotel was a historic hotel located at 23 Lexington Avenue in the Gramercy Park neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. Opened in 1930, it was designed by architect Emery Roth and named after the first U.S. President. The hotel was known for its Art Deco design and its popularity with artists, writers, and intellectuals. Over its history, it housed a number of notable residents and guests. The building's original amenities included a rooftop terrace, dining rooms, and ballrooms. In later years, portions of the building were converted into residential apartments. The structure still stands, although it no longer operates as a hotel. Its facade remains a notable feature of the Lexington Avenue streetscape.
