Düsseldorf East (electoral district)

Düsseldorf East (German: Düsseldorf I) is an electoral district (German: Wahlkreis) represented in the Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia. It covers the eastern parts of the city of Düsseldorf.

The electoral district was created in 1947 and has been consistently used since then, although its borders have been adjusted over time to account for population changes. It is designated as Wahlkreis 41.

Boundaries:

The Düsseldorf East electoral district includes the city districts of District 2 (comprising Rath, Kalkum, Unterrath, Lohausen, Stockum, Golzheim, and Kaiserswerth) and District 7 (comprising Gerresheim, Grafenberg, Ludenberg, and Hubbelrath), as well as parts of District 8 (specifically, the Unterbach neighborhood).

Representation:

The electoral district elects one member to the Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia. The election is conducted using a mixed-member proportional representation system. Voters cast two votes: one for a direct candidate in the electoral district and one for a party list. The direct candidate who receives the most votes in the electoral district wins the seat.

Historical Results:

The Düsseldorf East electoral district has historically been a competitive district, with both the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) winning the direct mandate at various times. The specific election results, including vote percentages and the winning candidate for each election, are available on the official website of the Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia and in publications dedicated to electoral analysis.
