Viger (electoral district)
Viger was a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that existed from 1935 to 1968. It was located in the city of Montreal.
Creation and Abolition
The riding was created in 1933 from parts of Hochelaga, Laurier—Outremont, and Sainte-Marie ridings. It was abolished in 1966 when it was redistributed into Laurier, Maisonneuve, Mercier, and Saint-Jacques ridings.
Representation
Throughout its existence, Viger was consistently represented by Members of Parliament from the Liberal Party of Canada.
Historical Significance
Viger reflected the socio-economic makeup of its constituent area in Montreal, which was predominantly working-class. The Liberal Party's dominance in the riding suggests the strong support the party held among the working-class population of Montreal at the time.
