Howard Jackson (composer)

Howard Jackson (1906 – 1976) was an American film and television composer. He is best known for his work at Universal Studios, where he scored numerous monster movies, westerns, and science fiction films throughout the 1940s and 1950s. His scores were often characterized by their dramatic, suspenseful, and sometimes bombastic orchestration, perfectly complementing the visual aspects of the films they accompanied. While often uncredited, Jackson's contributions to the genre are considered significant and have influenced subsequent generations of film composers. His work can be heard in films such as The Creature from the Black Lagoon, This Island Earth, and The Incredible Shrinking Man. He also worked on television shows like Wagon Train and The Virginian.
