Power Trip (band)
Power Trip was an American thrash metal band formed in Dallas, Texas in 2008. The band consisted of Riley Gale (vocals), Blake Ibanez (guitar), Nick Stewart (guitar), Chris Whetzel (bass), and Chris Ulsh (drums). Their sound was characterized by a blend of thrash metal, crossover thrash, and hardcore punk influences, often drawing comparisons to bands like Cro-Mags, Nuclear Assault, and Obituary.
Power Trip gained significant recognition within the metal and hardcore scenes for their energetic live performances and politically charged lyrics. Their debut full-length album, Manifest Decimation, was released in 2013 to critical acclaim, followed by their second album, Nightmare Logic, in 2017, which further solidified their reputation as one of the leading bands in the contemporary thrash metal revival. Nightmare Logic was particularly lauded for its intense songwriting and production.
The band toured extensively both domestically and internationally, sharing stages with a variety of acts across different genres. Their growing popularity and critical success positioned them for continued growth within the metal world.
Tragically, vocalist Riley Gale passed away in August 2020 at the age of 34. Following his death, the future of Power Trip remained uncertain. In 2024, the band announced a reunion show scheduled for later that year with Seth Gilmore of Fugitive on vocals.
