XOK (album)

XOK is the debut studio album by American experimental rock band Xiu Xiu, released in 2002 on 5 Rue Christine. The album is characterized by its lo-fi production, unconventional instrumentation, and Jamie Stewart's intensely personal and often disturbing lyrics.

The album explores themes of trauma, abuse, sexuality, and mental illness. Its sound is generally considered harsh and abrasive, combining elements of noise rock, art rock, and avant-garde music. The instrumentation includes a mix of traditional instruments such as guitars and drums, alongside less conventional instruments like synthesizers, field recordings, and found objects.

Several tracks on XOK have become staples of Xiu Xiu's live performances. The album is often cited as a key example of the band's early sound and has been influential in the development of experimental music scenes. While its challenging nature means it is not for every listener, XOK is regarded as a pivotal work in Xiu Xiu's discography and an important contribution to the experimental rock genre.
