Robocall

A robocall is a phone call that uses an automated telephone dialer to deliver a pre-recorded message, as if from a robot. Robocalls are often associated with telemarketing and political campaigning, but can also be used for public service announcements or legitimate business communications (e.g., appointment reminders). The technology allows for the mass distribution of messages to hundreds or even thousands of phone numbers in a short period of time.

While some robocalls are legal, many are unsolicited and unwanted, making them a significant source of consumer frustration. Laws and regulations exist in many jurisdictions to restrict certain types of robocalls, particularly those using deceptive or abusive practices. These regulations often focus on requiring consent before calling, disclosing the caller's identity, and providing a mechanism for recipients to opt out of future calls. Common illegal robocall activities include those that falsely claim to be from a government agency, offer fraudulent services, or solicit personal information for malicious purposes.
