18th Street station (CTA South Side Elevated)

18th Street station was a former station on the Chicago "L" system, serving the South Side Elevated line. Located at 18th Street and Wabash Avenue in the Near South Side neighborhood of Chicago, it operated from 1892 until 1949. The station provided access to the surrounding residential and commercial areas, including the developing printing and publishing district. Due to declining ridership and the CTA's efforts to streamline service, the station was closed and subsequently demolished as part of a broader service revision plan. No trace of the station remains today, and its function has largely been superseded by nearby stations on the Red Line. The surrounding area has since undergone significant redevelopment.
