Los Yorks
Los Yorks were a Peruvian garage rock band active during the mid-1960s. They are considered one of the most important and influential bands in the history of Peruvian rock music and a key part of the wider Latin American garage rock movement known as Nueva Ola.
Formed in Lima in 1964, the band consisted of Walter Paz (vocals), Román Palacios (guitar), Pablo Luna (bass), and Jesús "Papi" Hurtado (drums). Los Yorks quickly gained popularity for their raw, energetic sound, which was heavily influenced by British Invasion bands like The Rolling Stones and The Yardbirds. Their music combined elements of rock and roll, blues, and R&B, often featuring distorted guitars, powerful vocals, and driving rhythms.
Los Yorks released several successful singles and albums, including hits like "Abrazame," "Ya No Te Quiero," and "Cuando LLegue El Verano." Their lyrics, often sung in Spanish, dealt with themes of love, rebellion, and youth culture. Despite their relatively short career, which ended in the late 1960s, Los Yorks left a lasting legacy on Peruvian music. Their music continues to be enjoyed and celebrated by fans of garage rock and Latin American music around the world. They are often cited as a major influence on subsequent generations of Peruvian rock musicians.
