Mag Rack
Mag Rack was a video-on-demand service offered by Cablevision (now Altice USA) on its iO digital cable service. Launched in the early 2000s, Mag Rack featured a variety of short-form content derived from specialty magazines.
The service was organized into different "racks," each focusing on a specific topic or category, similar to browsing different sections of a magazine rack. These racks covered a broad range of subjects, including automotive, cooking, home improvement, health and fitness, sports, and travel. Individual segments, often lasting just a few minutes, were extracted from magazine-produced video content or were created specifically for Mag Rack.
Users could browse the different racks and select individual segments to watch on demand. This allowed viewers to access niche content without subscribing to multiple specialized channels. Mag Rack effectively provided a curated selection of magazine content in a convenient, on-demand format.
The service was discontinued in later years as on-demand offerings evolved and the landscape of digital content distribution shifted. However, Mag Rack represents an early example of how magazine content could be repurposed and delivered through digital platforms, catering to viewers with specific interests.
