Asura (video game)
Asura is a 2017 Indian action role-playing video game developed by Ogre Head Studio. The game is based on Indian mythology, specifically the Asura concept, portraying the player character as an Asura incarnate seeking revenge against the Daeva who wronged him.
The game is presented in a top-down perspective and features rogue-like elements, meaning that the game world, including enemy placement and loot, is procedurally generated with each playthrough. Permanent death is also a core mechanic.
Players control the Asura protagonist, utilizing a skill tree system to develop a unique build based on the five elemental affinities: Fire, Earth, Water, Wind, and Void. Each affinity influences the Asura's abilities and combat style. The game emphasizes fast-paced combat, requiring players to manage resources and adapt to different enemy types and challenging boss encounters.
Asura received generally positive reviews, praised for its unique setting, challenging gameplay, and compelling character progression. The game is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. The setting and narrative draw heavily on Hindu mythology, although presented with a darker, more violent interpretation aligned with the Asura's vengeful nature.
