Cold Prey

Cold Prey (Norwegian: Fritt Vilt) is a 2006 Norwegian slasher film directed by Roar Uthaug. It tells the story of five friends on a snowboarding trip in the Jotunheimen mountains who are forced to seek shelter in an abandoned ski lodge after one of them breaks his leg. Unbeknownst to them, a psychopathic mountain man resides within the lodge, and he begins hunting them down one by one.

The film is notable for its setting in the harsh, isolated Norwegian mountains, and its reliance on suspense and atmosphere to build tension. While employing genre conventions typical of slasher films, Cold Prey distinguishes itself with its strong female lead, Jannicke, played by Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, and its character-driven narrative.

Cold Prey was a critical and commercial success in Norway, leading to two sequels: Cold Prey 2 (2008) and Cold Prey 3 (2010). While the sequels retained some elements of the original, they were generally considered to be less successful. The original Cold Prey is often credited with revitalizing the Norwegian horror film industry and paving the way for other successful genre films from the region.
