Arthur Price (bishop)

Arthur Price (1679 – 1752) was an Anglican clergyman who served as Bishop of Meath in the Church of Ireland from 1744 until his death.

Price was born in County Kildare, Ireland. He was educated at Kilkenny College and Trinity College, Dublin. He held various positions within the Church of Ireland before being appointed Bishop of Clonfert and Kilmacduagh in 1724. In 1730, he was translated to the see of Ferns and Leighlin. Finally, he became Bishop of Meath in 1744, a post he held until his death in 1752.

He is remembered for his efforts to improve the living conditions of the poor in his diocese and for his support of education. His involvement in the affairs of the Dublin Blue Coat School is notable. He was also a significant benefactor to Trinity College, Dublin. While remembered for his charitable works, some accounts suggest he was also an absentee landlord, contributing to the hardships faced by his tenants. His will provided for charitable bequests.
