Bill Phillips (ice hockey)

Bill Phillips (born January 25, 1955) is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey player. A defenseman, Phillips played in the National Hockey League (NHL) and World Hockey Association (WHA) during the 1970s and 1980s.

Phillips was drafted by the New York Rangers in the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft. He played for the Rangers for two seasons before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers in the WHA. Following the WHA-NHL merger, Phillips continued playing for the Oilers in the NHL until 1981. He was then traded to the Calgary Flames, where he played for two seasons. His NHL career concluded with the Boston Bruins in the 1983-84 season.

Phillips was known as a stay-at-home defenseman, focusing on defensive responsibilities and physical play. He accumulated a significant number of penalty minutes throughout his career.

Following his NHL career, Phillips played in various minor leagues, including the American Hockey League (AHL) and the International Hockey League (IHL). He retired from professional hockey in the late 1980s.
