Ministry of Finance (Yugoslavia)

The Ministry of Finance of Yugoslavia was the government ministry responsible for overseeing the financial affairs of Yugoslavia throughout its various iterations, including the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY), and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY). Its primary responsibilities included managing the state budget, collecting taxes, regulating financial institutions, and representing Yugoslavia in international financial organizations.

The specific powers and responsibilities of the Ministry evolved over time, reflecting the shifting political and economic landscape of Yugoslavia. Under the Kingdom, the Ministry operated within a capitalist framework. During the socialist period, it oversaw a planned economy, implementing state-determined economic policies. In the later FRY, it transitioned towards a market-oriented system.

The Ministry was dissolved with the final dissolution of Yugoslavia in the early 2000s. Its functions were subsequently assumed by the Ministries of Finance of the successor states, including Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, and Montenegro. Its records and archives are distributed among the successor states, representing a significant historical resource for understanding the economic history of Yugoslavia.
