International Socialists (Sweden)

The International Socialists (Swedish: Internationella Socialister, IS) was a Trotskyist political organization in Sweden. It was founded in 1969 and dissolved in 2008 when its members largely joined the newly formed Socialist Justice Party.

The organization identified with the International Socialist Tendency (IST), a global network of Trotskyist groups originating from the British Socialist Workers Party (SWP). IS advocated for a revolutionary overthrow of capitalism and the establishment of a socialist society. Their politics were rooted in the theory of state capitalism, which analyzed the Soviet Union and similar regimes as class societies with the state acting as a collective capitalist.

IS was involved in various social movements in Sweden, including anti-racist campaigns, anti-war protests, and labor struggles. They published a newspaper, Internationalen, which served as their main outlet for disseminating their views and reporting on current events. The group also produced theoretical materials and pamphlets on a range of topics related to Marxism and socialist politics.

Throughout its existence, the International Socialists experienced several splits and internal debates. The dissolution in 2008 and subsequent formation of the Socialist Justice Party marked a significant shift in the Swedish far-left landscape.
