Rex (Ronald Reagan's dog)

Rex was a Bouvier des Flandres dog owned by U.S. President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan. He lived in the White House from 1985 until Reagan left office in 1989.

Rex was born in 1984 and given to the Reagans as a gift. He was known for his energetic personality and sometimes difficult behavior. Accounts differ, but some report he nipped at staff and guests, requiring some level of training and management. He became a relatively popular fixture in the White House, receiving fan mail and media attention.

During his time in the White House, Rex was a subject of public interest and even inspired merchandise. He was often seen accompanying the Reagans at official events. After the Reagans left office, Rex retired with them to their home in Bel Air, California, where he lived until his death in 1998. Rex is buried at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California. He is remembered as one of the more well-known presidential pets.
