Thomas Stanley (Lancashire MP, died 1576)
Thomas Stanley was a member of the Parliament of England for Lancashire. He was the son of Sir Edward Stanley of Hornby and Anne Molyneux. His lineage connected him to the powerful Stanley family, Earls of Derby.
He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Lancashire in 1559 and again in 1571. During his time in Parliament, details of his activities and specific contributions are scarce in surviving records, which is not uncommon for the period. Parliamentary records of the era were not always comprehensive.
He married Margaret Vernon, daughter of Sir George Vernon of Haddon Hall, Derbyshire. They had children, including Edward Stanley, who also became a Member of Parliament.
Thomas Stanley died in 1576. His will was proved in that year, providing some details regarding his land holdings and bequests to his family. His position in Lancashire society and his parliamentary service highlight the continuing influence of the Stanley family during the Tudor period. Further biographical details are often found in genealogical records and local histories of Lancashire.
