Carlos Contreras (footballer, born 1938)

Carlos Contreras (born October 7, 1938, in Santiago, Chile; died April 17, 2020) was a Chilean professional footballer who played as a defender.

Contreras spent the majority of his career playing for Universidad de Chile, where he was a key member of the legendary "Ballet Azul" team, which dominated Chilean football in the 1960s. He won six national league titles with the club in 1959, 1962, 1964, 1965, 1967, and 1969.

He also represented the Chile national team, participating in the 1962 FIFA World Cup held in Chile, where the team finished third. He played a significant role in the team's strong performance throughout the tournament. He also competed in the 1966 FIFA World Cup in England. Contreras earned a total of 30 caps for his country.

After retiring from professional football, Contreras remained involved in the sport, working in various capacities, including coaching and administration. He is remembered as one of the most important figures in the history of Universidad de Chile and a respected player in Chilean football history.
