James Murphy (Irish judge)

James Murphy is an Irish judge currently serving as a judge of the Court of Appeal. Prior to his appointment to the Court of Appeal, he served as a judge of the High Court.

Murphy was educated at University College Dublin and King's Inns. He was called to the Bar in 1974 and practiced as a barrister before being appointed to the bench.

He was appointed to the High Court in 2014. During his time on the High Court, he presided over a variety of cases, including those relating to commercial law, personal injuries, and judicial review.

In 2022, Murphy was appointed to the Court of Appeal. He continues to hear and adjudicate cases before the appellate court. His appointment to the Court of Appeal fills a position vacated by a retiring judge, and he brings significant experience from his previous judicial roles.
