Neviusia

Neviusia is a monotypic genus in the rose family (Rosaceae). It contains only one species, Neviusia alabamensis, commonly known as Alabama snow-wreath.

Neviusia alabamensis is a deciduous shrub native to the southeastern United States, specifically found in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee. It is considered rare and is listed as an endangered or threatened species in some states.

The shrub typically grows to a height of 3 to 6 feet and has arching branches. The leaves are alternate, simple, and ovate, with serrated edges.

Neviusia alabamensis is notable for its showy white flowers, which appear in spring. The flowers lack petals but have prominent white stamens, giving them a fluffy appearance, hence the common name "snow-wreath".

It prefers moist, well-drained soils and partial shade conditions. Propagation is typically done by cuttings or layering.

Conservation efforts are underway to protect and restore populations of Neviusia alabamensis due to habitat loss and other environmental factors.
