Mid Down (UK Parliament constituency)

Mid Down was a United Kingdom parliamentary constituency in Northern Ireland. It existed from 1983 to 1997.

Boundaries:

The constituency was created in 1983 from parts of the former Down North and Down South constituencies. It covered the central portion of County Down, including areas such as Ballynahinch, Saintfield, and parts of Downpatrick.

Political History:

Mid Down was generally considered a marginal constituency, contested between unionist and nationalist parties.

Members of Parliament:

• 1983 - 1987: John David Taylor (Ulster Unionist Party)
• 1987 - 1997: William McCrea (Democratic Unionist Party)

Abolition:

The Mid Down constituency was abolished in 1997. Its territory was redistributed between the constituencies of Strangford, Lagan Valley, and South Down.
