Persian King (horse)

Persian King was a British-bred, French-trained Thoroughbred racehorse best known for winning the 2019 Epsom Derby. Bred by the Newsells Park Stud, he was sired by Kingman out of the mare Precious Gem.

Racing as a two-year-old in 2018, Persian King showed significant promise, winning two of his three races, including the Group Three Autumn Stakes at Newmarket. These performances established him as a leading contender for the following year's Classics.

As a three-year-old in 2019, Persian King began his season with a victory in the Group Three Prix de Fontainebleau at Longchamp. He then confirmed his Derby credentials by winning the Group One Poule d'Essai des Poulains (French 2000 Guineas), also at Longchamp.

His most significant victory came in the 2019 Epsom Derby, where he was ridden by William Buick and trained by André Fabre. He won the race ahead of runner-up Dee Ex Bee and third-place Japan.

Following his Derby victory, Persian King continued to race, winning the Group One Prix d'Ispahan in 2020. He was retired to stud later that year.
