David Howell (chess player)

David Howell (born 14 November 1990) is an English chess grandmaster and commentator.

Howell achieved the grandmaster title in 2007 at the age of 16. He is a three-time British Chess Champion, winning the title in 2009, 2013, and 2015.

Throughout his career, Howell has represented England in numerous international chess events, including the Chess Olympiads and the European Team Chess Championships. He has been a regular member of the English national team.

Howell is also known for his work as a chess commentator, providing analysis for major chess tournaments on platforms such as Chess.com and Lichess.org. His commentary is noted for its insightful explanations and engaging style.

His peak FIDE rating was 2712, achieved in 2015, making him one of the highest-rated English chess players in history.

Howell has written and contributed to chess publications and has actively promoted chess through various initiatives. He continues to be an active player and a prominent figure in the English chess community.
