Dead Man's Hand (2002 film)
Dead Man's Hand is a 2002 Western film directed by Serge Rodnunsky. The film stars Ron Perlman, Patrick Bergin, and Judge Reinhold. It is a low-budget independent production.
The film's plot centers on Reno, Nevada in the late 19th century. A gunslinger named Bob (Ron Perlman) returns to his hometown after a long absence. He finds it plagued by corruption and controlled by a ruthless businessman, Mayor Bill (Patrick Bergin), who is also a skilled gambler. Bob becomes embroiled in a conflict with the Mayor and must confront his past while trying to protect the town and its inhabitants from the Mayor's tyranny.
The title, Dead Man's Hand, refers to the famous poker hand held by Wild Bill Hickok when he was shot and killed: two pair, aces and eights, commonly (but not always) of the black suits. This concept of fate and deadly hands is woven into the narrative of the film.
Reception for Dead Man's Hand was generally negative, with critics citing low production values, a weak script, and lackluster performances. Despite featuring well-known actors, the film failed to garner significant attention and is considered a relatively obscure entry in the Western genre.
