Mabel Young (barque)
The Mabel Young was a four-masted barque built in Bath, Maine, United States, in 1893. She was notable for being one of the last large wooden sailing vessels built in America and for her long service in the Pacific coastwise lumber trade. Constructed by Arthur Sewall & Co., she measured approximately 260 feet in length and had a carrying capacity of around 2,700 tons. The Mabel Young primarily hauled lumber from the Pacific Northwest to ports in California and elsewhere. The end of her sailing career came in the 1920s, and she was subsequently used as a barge before being scrapped. She represents a significant era in maritime history, demonstrating the transition from sail to steam power in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
