South Line (Denmark)
The South Line (Danish: Sydbanen) is a railway line in Denmark running from Copenhagen via Roskilde and Næstved to Rødbyhavn, from where ferries connect to Puttgarden, Germany. It is part of the Vogelfluglinie, a transport corridor connecting Copenhagen and Hamburg. The line is crucial for both passenger and freight traffic between Scandinavia and continental Europe.
The South Line serves several major urban centers and provides vital connections for local and long-distance travel. Significant portions of the line are electrified, facilitating faster and more efficient train operations. Passenger services are primarily operated by DSB (Danish State Railways).
The infrastructure of the South Line has undergone significant upgrades and improvements over the years to accommodate increasing traffic volumes and modern train technologies. This includes track doubling, signaling enhancements, and station renovations. These upgrades aim to improve speed, capacity, and reliability. The line's strategic importance has also made it a focal point for ongoing and future infrastructure planning, especially in the context of improved connections to Germany and the rest of Europe.
