Finntroll

Finntroll is a Finnish metal band formed in 1997 in Helsinki, Finland. They are known for their unique blend of black metal and Finnish folk music, specifically humppa, resulting in a sound often described as "troll metal" or "humppa metal."

The band's lyrical themes revolve around Finnish mythology, paganism, and trolls, often sung in Swedish rather than Finnish. This choice of language, initially due to singer Jan "Katla" Jämsen's Swedish-speaking background, has become a defining characteristic of Finntroll.

Musically, Finntroll employs aggressive, distorted guitars and blast beats characteristic of black metal, combined with the accordion, keyboard, and other folk instruments to create a distinctive and energetic sound. The band's stage presence is often theatrical, with members wearing face paint and costumes to embody their trollish personas.

Over the years, Finntroll has released several albums, each further developing their signature sound and solidifying their place in the metal scene. They have toured extensively, gaining a significant international following. Despite lineup changes, including the departure of key members, Finntroll continues to be a prominent force in the folk metal and black metal genres.
